A half-hour blackout in downtown Belfast Wednesday that affected businesses and darkened two of the city's four traffic lights was caused by a squirrel.
The power outage lasted from 12:22 p.m. to 12:49 p.m. and affected 975 customers, according to Central Maine Power spokeswoman Gail Rice.
Rice confirmed that the cause was "a critter," and said an earlier power outage in Augusta had been caused by a squirrel.
